The Salomon Women's Mega Trek 6 Light GTX Hiking Boot is a performance-driven rugged terrain hiker. The Mega Trek 6 is up for anything from technical day hikes to weekend backpacking trips. It's also the lightest boot in Salomon's Mega Trek line. Salomon's Advanced Chassis system stabilizes your feet over uneven terrain, without losing energy from your stride. The Gore-Tex membrane keeps your feet dry from outside moisture, while a thick PU midsole and beefy rubber toe cap keep your tootsies protected from rocks and abrasion. The high cuff protects and supports your ankles as you trot your way to the peak, and the bootie-construction liner adds comfort.

I'm not barefeet?
I love this boot. It is extremely lightweight and I know I can walk through anything without my feet getting wet (within reason of course!). They are very comfortable and warm and didn't require any breaking in. We are climbing Kilimanjaro so we'll see how they hold out, but so far so good! What I recommend is that if you're a woman whose feet are between sizes and you're not sure which size to go with, order both sizes at the same time and save on shipping. I ordered a pair and found they were just a tad too small, so I had to order another pair and shipped the others back. I had a very positive experience with this site and would buy from them again in a second.

more than I needed
We just moved to an area with forests all around us. I needed a lightweight hiking boot with enough support for longer (but not serious) hikes. I bought both this boot and the Salomon Extend Mid XCR Day Hiking Shoe to compare. I ended up sending these ones back as they were heavier duty than I needed. I also found the top of the shoe uncomfortable around my ankle and the back of my lower leg. I felt these boots had good potential but would require some adjusting and breaking in. They were lightweight with good support but were more than I needed for casual cruising.

No break-in needed
The first hike I used these boots for was a day hike to Upper Yosemite Falls (7.2 miles/11.6 km round-trip; 2,700 feet/823 m elevation gain) using thick wool hiking socks from Costco. I didn't get a single blister and only felt some minor toe jam near the last hour of the hike on the rather steep trail down. Amazed that the boots needed no break-in time! The boots fit true to size and have a roomy toe box. If you're not sure what size you need, measure you foot in cm. Draw the outline of your feet on a piece of paper and use a ruler to measure the longest distance from toe to heel. Then round up to the nearest 0.5 cm.

Second Time around
I love this boot so much I went and bought a second pair for when the others wear out! I yet to climb Kili (scheduled for Dec 07), however in the year I have had my first pair, they have held out amazingly. I have hiked a good 400km in the past year in them and they still look like new...and I certainly don't baby them! I did find that coating them in Nikwax helped with some waterproofing but the one time they did get wet, I was crossing small rivers and marshes. But in regular rain hikes, my feet were dry. I find the best socks to wear with these are medium weight hiking wool socks (Smartwool hiking socks). These boots have broken in very nicely and I look forward to hiking Kili in them! Can't you tell..I'm a fan of these boots!
